A Colorful & Bright Summer Moneta Dress

Every since I made my first Moneta, I knew I needed more. This dress is so easy to make, comfy to wear and just all around adorable!

Colorful & Bright Summer Moneta

If you’ve seen my last “On the Sewing Table” video or if you’ve been following me on Instagram you may have seen my colorful and bright summer knit fabric I sourced not too long ago at an antique store.

This amazing floral fabric was a great find

There wasn’t much of the fabric, about 2 yards, but it was 60 inches wide. The print, however, is amazing, so amazing that I knew this would make the perfect summer Moneta dress.

Fitting the Moneta

For my first Moneta dress, I cut the XL bodice and 3X skirt. The 3X skirt was way too big, but since it was gathered it actually gave a lot of fullness to the dress. I also found the bodice top to be a bit on the big side.

It’s a little snug but I used every last inch of fabric

I decided to cut out the large for the bodice and using every last inch of fabric I managed to squeeze out a large for the skirt. The dress fits but only just, I think an XL at the waist would have been better, but I just didn’t have enough fabric.

Bias Tape Finishings

While I was making the sleeveless version of the dress, I wanted to keep the dress as light as possible so instead of adding a bodice lining I just used my bias tape method for finishing off the armholes.

Can you tell that I love this dress?

I top stitched around the armholes using red thread. Since there is a lot of red in the print I thought that would be the least noticeable thread for the top stitch.

Rolled Collar

While I really love the tie collar I made for my first Moneta, I felt like I wanted something a bit more simple for this version. I didn’t really want a contrasting collar and just wanted to add a little interest in this already bold print of a dress.

The collar is lovely

So, in the end, I went with the rolled collar, from the Montea Collar extra pack. The construction of the collar was really straight forward and easy to put together.

Fave Feature

My fave feature about my summer Moneta has to be the print! I mean can you blame me this fabric is amazing, so colorful and bright. It really is the perfect summer print.

I also managed to include the pockets

While I do really love this dress it’s just a little snug. However, I’m working on shedding some pounds, so hopefully next summer I’ll be able to get a lot more wear out of it.

It just so happens I had the perfect hat to go with it

Other than that, I can’t say enough great things about this pattern, other than I want to make more Moneta dresses.
