Sometimes you come across fabric and you just know exactly what you are going to make with it.
That is just what happened when I stumbled across a bundle of five yards of a red plaid felt material at one of my frequent antique spots.

Since, as I said before, I get my fabric second second-hand I only come across two or three yards at a time. So finding five yards was amazing.
Since I’d never made a true circle skirt I decided to use my 1950’s costume, McCall’s M6234 pattern so I’d get a good fit.
The hardest part was cutting. There was so much fabric so I ended up having to cut out the pieces on the floor. Plus, since it was a plaid fabric I wanted to match up the pattern as much as possible.
While sewing wasn’t hard, per say, again there was a lot of fabric to deal with.
I love the blue plaid in this red skirt, I think it brightens it up and keeps it from looking to holiday-ish. To emphasize the blue I decided to add a vintage blue button, from my button stash, to the waistband.

After finishing the skirt I decided it was awkwardly long on me. I’m not tall and at 32″ length, I felt I was bringing swallowed. So, I nervously, decided to redo the hem and give it a nice 24″ length instead.
I’m so glad I did. It not only looks better on me I don’t have to worry about the dreaded waterfall, when wearing it with my ModCloth Va Va Volumous blue petticoat.

I had some fabric left over that I made a matching headband with bow.

I love it! I can’t say it enough. I finally have my dream circle skirt complete with petticoat, and I even paired it with my vintage red cardigan. A prefect match if I do say so myself.

That skirt is super cute! Its looks so warm and cozy. And I love how you made a matching bow from the excess!
Thanks Carla,
The skirt is warm and so soft. I’m very happy with this skirt and the matching bow.
I love being able to use my fabric scraps to make matching accessories.
