Pittsburg Beautiful Yard of the Month

Pittsburg Beautiful is a volunteer group whose mission is to “image and appearance of Pittsburg through support for government action, coordination with other like-mined organizations, and by fostering individual responsibility for and appreciation of the beautification of Pittsburg.”  Each month from April through October, they choose both a homeowner and business owner that has worked towards making the city of Pittsburg, Kansas more beautiful.

It was a both a shock and an honor last month to be awarded the Pittsburg Beautiful Yard of the month.

When I started work on my yard last summer I really didn’t intend on winning awards I just wanted to add some curb appeal. While I made a little progress, it was really this pass spring my vision for the yard really took hold.

In April a friend of our neighbors was giving away some brick and we were able to get as many as we could haul. We used these historic Pittsburg paver bricks to line my flowerbeds throughout the yard. I think the brick not only looks good but being a historic part of the city also makes it nice to be able to use.

After planting and mulching throughout the summer I was really impressed with my handy work and the fact that I finally was able to keep my flowers alive. All it took was some determination and frequent watering.

This past Sunday my house was featured story in our local paper the Morning Sun.

As I said in the article me and my hubby have really worked hard on our yard and one of the reasons is that we:

“like being creative and have been able to use this creativity to put together a fun and visually appealing yard & garden.”

I wasn’t looking to win any awards, but it was nice to see our hard work get noticed. In the meantime me and my hubby, plan on continue to work on bringing our historical home back to its former beauty. In the meantime enjoy more photos of my yard
