It’s May! Can you believe it? This means it’s time to start diving into all my summer sewing projects.
Not only do I have a couple of things planned, there are also a ton of great sew-along / challenges going on this month and throughout summer.
Me Made May 2016
Let’s start with Me Made May 2016 (#mmmay16) this fun social media challenge encourages sewers to wear their me made makes all through the month of May.
It’s super fun and has really got me motivated to make more separates, so that I can extend the use of my me made outfits by mixing and matching.
I missed the day one of Me Made May, since it was a Sunday and I didn’t even notice it was already May. However, I’ve been pretty consistent since and you can follow my progress on Instagram.
Other Summer Sew-Alongs
As many of you may have already read I’m participating in the year long Vintage Pledge and McCalls Big Vintage Sew-Along. However, there are a few more fun ones that I plan to join.
McCalls Shirt Dress Sew-Along
McCalls is hosting a 6 week shirt dress sew-along, which participants make a shirt dress using a McCalls, Butterick or Vogue pattern. Best of all you welcome to use a modern or vintage pattern for this project.
While making a vintage pattern would make sense, given my Vintage Pledge and all, I’ve instead opted to go with a modern McCalls 4769 pattern I had in my stash. Mainly because I remembered I had this pattern and because I didn’t want to do to much fitting adjustments on a vintage pattern.
Despite being a newer pattern I think my purple floral fabric from my stash paired with my vintage buttons will give it a more vintage look.
I Dream of Tiki Hawaiian Dress Sew-Along
Next on my list is the “I Dream of Tiki Hawaiian Dress” sew-along. This one was announced on We Sew Retro, is all about making a tiki/Hawaiian style dress.
The dress can be any pattern but should have a vintage/vintage inspired look to it. Needless to say I immediately thought of Gertie’s Butterick 6019 pattern.
This pattern I think is a great example of tiki dress. While I like both versions my hubby suggested I do version A, since it’s more my style.
Also, I’ve had in my stash for a very long time some great tiki fabric. This black cotton features blue, purple and pink neon palm leaves and shapes. It has a bit of a 1980s / 1940s feel to me.
Vintage Suite Sew-Along
Lastly, I also plan to join the Vintage Suite Sew-Along. This 2-month sew-along challenges participants to make a vintage suite.
For a long time I’ve been wanting to make a nice structured suit jacket, but hadn’t the courage. Thus, this sew-along is just the push to get me started.
I have a lot of vintage suit patterns in my stash and the only problem now is coming up with which one to use.
Challenges Page
This pretty much sums up my summer sew-alongs, but I’m sure there will be more throughout the year that I will end up participating in.
Since I enjoy these sew-alongs so much, I thought I needed a better way to record all the fun challenges/sew-alongs I participate in.
Therefore I’ve created the “Challenges” page which you can access from the main menu at the top of the page. This page lists current and past challenges/sew-alongs that I’ve participated in.
So, be sure to check it out and let me know if you have a challenges/sew-along I need to join.
Great patterns and fabrics (and buttons, too). I especially like the wee floral print. What a romantic, sweet pattern.
I had to smile, we both use pink measuring tapes. Love that! 🙂
Happy sewing, dear Akram!

Thanks Miss Jessica. Yeah I like my pink measuring tape, the color makes it easy to find in a sewing/craft mess. 😉
