Since 1994 the Craft & Hobby Association has designated the month of March as National Craft month.
March is really the idea time of year for crafting. There isn’t a big holiday rush so you can take your time with your projects. The start of spring also means you can do some outdoor crafts or even take advantage of spring blooms in your craft project.
Crafting Ideas
Not sure what type of craft project to begin work on?
Pinterest & Craftgawker
I suggest taking a look at Pinterest. There you’ll find a ton of pins of craft tutorials and/or craft inspiration. Craft projects can range from a quick 15-minute project to a full fledged labor of love.
Here is a peek at my Craft board on Pinterest:
Follow Akram Taghavi-Burris’s board Create : Crafts on Pinterest.
Another great resource for craft ideas is Craftgawker. This site is similar to Pinterest but dedicated to crafts only. You can search the site by craft category which ranges from traditional art to food crafts, printables, sewing and even upcycle projects.
Craftsy.com
Another great resource for learning new crafts is Craftsy. They have an array of courses for learning anything from cooking to painting to photography.
Learning with Craftsy is always a great experience. The interaction between you and your instructor and other students really adds to the learn experience.
Not ready to take on a full Craftsy course, don’t worry they have a good sampling of quickie free courses that you can enroll in.
Craftsy also offers several project kits, so you have everything you need to complete a project.
Your Local Craft / Hobby Store
Another great resource is your local craft and hobby stores. Places such as JoAnn Fabrics and Michael’s often offer classes or even demos on a wide range of crafts, from scrapbooking to Wilton cake decorating.
Challenges and Giveaways
In honor of National Craft Month many craft retails are hosting a number of fun crafting challenges or even Giveaways.
#JoAnnCraftChallenge
JoAnn Fabrics for example is hosting the #JoAnnCraftChallenge Instagram / Twitter challenge. Each day of the challenge participants are to post a picture in response to @joann_stores craft prompt, using the hashtag #JoAnnCraftChallenge. Winner could win a $250 gift card.
Craftsy Mystery Box Giveaway
Craftsy is hosting their Mystery Box Giveaway the prize includes a mystery box of supplies from the Craftsy Supply Shop worth $700 for the winner and one friend.
