As many of you know I love antiquing and frequent antique stores just about every other weekend. With that said, I felt that it had been far too long since I did a fave find post and I thought that I would share with you some of the cool things I’ve picked up this spring.
My Fave Finds
Let’s start with some of the cool vintage items I picked up over the last few months.
Vintage Purses
I love finding vintage purses. I know that their size doesn’t always make them practical for everyday use but they make for a great prop for photos and a nice accent when just going out for the evening.
While I was antiquing in Norman, Oklahoma during Mother’s day weekend I came across several nice vintage purses all in great condition.
The black vintage purse has a really nice built-in handle and clasp.
I love pink purses and the one that I found was pretty much in mint condition.
Lastly, I came across an avocado colored purse, which isn’t a color you often find. I also really like the fur bow detail.
Decor and Accessories
While at the same Norman shops my husband found me these really unusual perfume bottles with a celestial design on them. I adore celestial decor and these bottles would be perfect for my guest bathroom. I think I’ll probably fill them with colored oils and set them up on the self in there.
I hardly ever buy jewelry but when I do it’s more often than not vintage jewelry. This particular trip to Norman I ended up finding the cutest bow earrings, where the ribbon falls past the ear. Not sure how vintage they are (possibly 80’s) but I think they are super cute.
On a totally different day in Joplin, I found what has to be my favorite find of the season a pearl tie. I’d never seen something like this before, and while it might be costumey I still thought it was so 1930’s. Can’t you see this on 1930’s style dress with a peter pan collar? Oh and outfit just for this necklace will be made, I guarantee it!
Sewing Finds
What would a fave finds post be without some sewing finds.
At the same Joplin shop where I found the pearl tie, I also found a bag for $8 of belting supplies. I’ve been meaning to make some fabric covered belts to match my shirtdresses and this was perfect. The bag also included some dungarees clips and covered button kits.
I also managed to get a bunch of bias tape and ribbon at Peddler’s Junction in Crestline, KS on the way to Joplin. I also found some fabric there but that will be in another post.
While in Joplin one must go to Rangeline Antiques, it’s where I get the majority of all my fabric (and like I said that will be in a separate post). This time I not only found fabric but also got some really cool vintage buttons.
Some non-vintage sewing finds this month came from a trip to Joann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby.
I have a lot of free lightweight tote bags that I want to use as interfacing for some purses that I have planned to make. To do this I thought I’d try 606 Spray On Fusible Web. The idea is that cut the tote bags with the interfacing patterns, spray and then fuse just like regular interfacing to the purse fabric. Don’t know how well this will work but love to hear if any of you guys out there have tried this.
Hobby Lobby had a 99 cent sale on Simplicity patterns and while I really shouldn’t have done it I couldn’t resist. Needless to say, I came back with quite a few patterns.
