Fave Finds: Summer & Autumn 2018

As we inch closer to the end of the year I thought I’d share with you some of my fave finds over the last few months. These fave finds are mostly vintage items that I’ve picked up at various antique stores from late summer to early autumn.

Novelty & Vintage Finds

While out and about over the last few months I did come across several vintage sewing patterns and of course, I always manage to pick up fabric. However, since this fave finds post is the extent of several months I thought I’d break it out into sections.

Thus, we’ll start with just the novelty and vintage finds I’ve picked up between July and September.

I managed to pick up quite a few things over the past few months

Novelty Jewelry

In July I attended Tokyo in Tulsa, an anime convention, where I was manning a booth for the computer science department at TU.

While at the event I had a chance to do a little shopping and picked up a pair of really fun novelty necklaces, from the shop Miyuka, who also happens to have an Esty store.

I treated myself to a necklace that said “Kawaii” which is basically the Japanese synonym for cute.

The shop also had a super cool Bill Cipher necklace, inspired by Gravity Falls. You might recall that a few Halloweens ago I dressed up as Mable Pines from Gravity Falls, so I just had to have the necklace. I paired the necklace with my Mabel costume for the last day of the expo.

Oklahoma Pinup Bazar

Later in July, I attended the Oklahoma Pinup Bazar which was essentially a flea market to buy, sell and trade vintage / retro items.

My sister Miss Z, who is an amazing artist had her first ever craft booth at the event, where she was selling both her watercolor prints and fabulous jewelry.

While I was at the event, I did find a few items I couldn’t leave without. I’d been looking for a more authentic sized cat’s eye sunglasses for some time and I managed to find a pink pair for just $6, what a deal.

One booth had a lovely resin brooch featuring a silhouette of a geisha sounded by cherry blossoms and a fan. I’m not sure if it was true vintage but it was cool none the less.

Lastly for a whopping $10 I bought a vintage red trench coat from the 1980’s. This coat is not only totally cool looking, but it screamed Carmen Sandiego. Needless to say, I paired this coat with my red fedora I had in my hat collection and dressed as Carmen Sandiego for Halloween last week.

Novelty and vintage accessories can really add to your wardrobe

Over the past few months, I’ve managed to pick up a few pieces to add to my collection of vintage jewelry.  I happen to come across a couple of vintage brooches, along with a few earrings.

Along with the novelty jewelry I picked up in July I’ve ended the year with a nice set of accessory items.

Vintage Handbags

Always enjoy picking up vintage purses

In my last Fave Finds post I mentioned that I often come across vintage handbags and while they are often small, they make good props for photos.

This time, however, I managed to find a few vintage and vintage-inspired purses that were a fairly decent size.

Vintage Hats

I can’t resist a good vintage hat

I have a very large vintage hat collection, so I really don’t need any more hats. Though sometimes you come across some super cool hats that it’s just so hard to resist.

In May I picked up a white hat with a blue ribbon that you might recall from my photos of my summer culottes.

Aside from that white hat, I also snatched up a couple of 20’s style bucket hats and a two super cool fedora like 30’s/40’s style hats.

Bits and Bobs

The last few items I picked up since my last haul was 10 yards of a lovely blue trim. I think it would look amazing on a denim skirt.

I also picked up a Tinker Bell doll for my niece Layla. Though if she doesn’t want it I’ll add it to my Disney toy collection.

More to Come

Like I said at the beginning I also picked up quite a few vintage sewing patterns and an epic amount of fabric. But I’ll be sharing those in an upcoming video.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear what cool finds you’ve picked up in the last few months.
