The 2019 Day & Night Challenge Staring Akram

It’s time once again for another sewing challenge and this one has to be on of my favorite challenges.

The Day & Night Challenge

The Day & Night Challenge hosted by Elizabeth of Elizabeth Made This, is a sewing challenge to make two garments one for a day look one for a night look.
Last year I went all out and recreated the Day & Night Barbie’s outfit from the ’80s. Like Barbie’s outfit, I made the whole thing reversible. For the big reveal, I even did a whole little skit.

2019’s Challenge

This year Elizabeth shook up the challenge by requiring us not to make a new garment but make new accessories for an existing me-made outfit we hardly wear.

I had the perfect dress in mind, all it needed was a jacket, and as with last year’s, I wanted to make it reversible.

My take on this year's Day and Night challenge hosted by Elizabeth Made This. My goal was to recreate the "turnabout" bolero from the 1950's.
This bolero was inspired by the “turnabout” dress

A Sitcom Skit

While I wanted to do a skit for this year’s challenge I really didn’t think about what the skit would be until I got dressed up in the outfit.

The look was exactly that late 40’s early 50’s look, I wanted and with the black and white, I thought why not do a sort of 50’s sitcom-style skit. I even went over to the Internet Movie Archive, a resource of videos in the public domain to find some actual footage, to use for the skit and even added a few sound effects.

I had a lot of fun making this bolero and video skit

I had a lot of fun with this challenge and loved how my jacket turned out. It really makes the dress more wearable. However, more than the dress I love the skit. I had a lot of fun with the skit and how it totally looks like a vintage sitcom.

If it’s not apparent I’m a bit of a ham, so doing the skit was so much fun. I can’t wait for next year’s Day and Night Challenge and already thinking up some fun skits for that.

Did you take part in the Day and Night Challenge, what did you make? Thoughts on the funny skits, are they too over the top or do you fancy more?
