If you’ve been following me on social media you probably have seen some sneak peeks of my new favorite t-shirt pattern. I was lucky enough to be a pattern test for the Delia Top from Sew It With Love and now that the pattern has been released I finally get to share with you all the things I love about this pattern.
The Delia Top
I was super excited when I got asked by Elena Pintus of Sew It With Love if I would like to test their upcoming pattern. The request came just a day after I told my hubby I wanted to make more knit tops. What a coincidence.
The Delia Top is a perfect knit top pattern for beginners. This semi-fitted top features raglan sleeves. If you’ve never sewn raglan sleeves, not to worry, they are by far easier to sew and fit than set-in sleeves.
Plus the Delia Top has so many variations. You can make it with long sleeves, short sleeves, with or without a peplum and an additional bow along the neckline.
My Delia Top
For my Delia Top I choose to go with a long sleeve version without the peplum. I’m not sure how a peplum would look on me. I choose some great blue jersey knit I had in my stash.
The fabric was a great choice as it was super soft and easy to work with.
I made a 16 grading to a 20 at the waist. The sleeve I cut at a straight 16. After making the top I determined that I probably could have gotten away with making a 14 grading to 18 and a 14 sleeve, for a tighter fit. However, I decided I like the looser fit, it’s comfy and I rather like loose fitted sleeves.
Also I decided to put a pin attachment on the back of the bow so that it’s removable. I thought this would be nice when washing, so not to crush the bow.
Sew in Love with it
This pattern was so easy to whip up and so comfy I couldn’t get enough of it.
Immediately after making my first Delia Top I made a second one out of some blue floral jersey I had. For this second version I made the short sleeves , mainly because I was short on fabric. Still I think the floral pattern will be perfect for a spring top.
I liked the pattern so much I thought I’d make this shirt for my mom for Christmas. My original plan was to make a long sleeve version out of a grey knit fabric I had. Unfortunately the fabric didn’t have as much stretch as I had hopped. While the shirt came out fine, it wouldn’t exactly fit my mom. So in the end I kept this grey version for myself.
While the grey fabric didn’t work I did find some white jersey in my stash. The white worked perfect for my mom’s present.
So if you are counting so far I’ve made 4 Delia tops , 3 ended up being for me and one for my mom. However, I pretty sure this is not the last I’ve made of the Delia Top. I can already see myself making more soon 😉
What a great basic tee! Limitless possibilities!!!
Thanks Christina 😉 I totally agree and can foresee making many more.
