Easy Brezzy Cowl Top

Early on in Me-Made-May, I discovered I really needed more tops in my wardrobe.
I decided to make a few more Pomegranate Top from Octavia Patterns.

A Quick Pomegranate

I made the Pomegranate Top early last year, as I was invited to be a pattern tester for the newly established Octavia Patterns

The pattern is a super simple cowl neck blouse with kimono sleeves and cut on the bais.

This top is such a quick make

I won’t go into to much detail about the construction of the top as I made it exactly as I did before, which you can read about here

This pattern whips up in no time as it is made up of only two pattern pieces (front and back bodice) and some bias tape for finishing.

I’ve found if I make the top using a drapey polyester with some stretch I don’t need to cut the pattern on the bais, which means I don’t need as much fabric for a single top.

Pink and Blue Pomegranate

Aside from needing more tops in my wardrobe I also need more solid colors, which is exactly why I choose to make this lovely pink version of the top.

It’s a deep rose color and in that stretchy polyester type fabric. This color has been ideal in my wardrobe and I’ve pretty much worn it with everything from jeans, to skirts to slacks.

This blue floral works as a neutral in my wardrobe

Of course, one top is never enough, so I ended up making a second one in a light blue with darker blue flowers on it. The print on this top is so subtle that it works almost as a solid. At least in my mind anyways.

More Cowl neck Blouses

Recently someone on social media asked me where I got it and I was going to send the link to Octavia Patterns only to discover that they are gone. Their website no longer is up and their Facebook page hasn’t had a post since early November.

So, sadly this pattern is no longer available but there are a few options if you want to try to create a similar top.

A few patterns that might work

First off is Simplicity 2594 This pattern is very similar in style but also includes a back yoke detail. Unfortunately, this pattern looks like it may be out of print, but you can find various copies for sale online.

Alternatively, there is Simplicity 8656 which is for a knit top that has the same kind of drape but no cowl neck.

My last suggestion would be the Sew Over It Cowl Neck Dress / Top pattern. This pattern has a similar cowl neck but doesn’t have the kimono sleeves.

If you’ve made any of the patterns mentioned above or know of a similar pattern to the Octavia Pomegranate Top I’d love to hear your suggestions and thoughts in the comments below.
