Last year for my Mom’s birthday and Mother’s day gift I made her a pair of purses. One of which was a denim purse made from an old pair of jeans.
My mom loved the denim one so much that she told me it wore out. Then last month she asked if I could make her a new one.
A Purse for Mother’s Day
The timing was perfect because mother’s day was just around the corner and I still hadn’t gotten her a gift.
Black Jean & Red Floral Purse
For this project I decided to use an old pair of black jeans I had in my stack of clothes to refashion.
While my mom usually prefers pinks and blues, I thought having a black purse might come in handy since it can go with many colors.
I used pretty much the same method of making this purse as I did the first jean purse. These black jeans had been discarded because of size. Since there were no holes, I could use all the fabric.
I cut the leg parts of the jeans to reuse for the straps and the bottom half of the purse. Adding a few more inches to the bottom makes this purse deeper and more useful.
For the lining and to add contrast I decided to go with a red floral print I had. The red fabric had little yellow and white flowers with black accent.
Mom’s Gift
My mom was thoroughly happy to get a new jean purse. She was so so on the color, but was sure it would work anyways.
While the purse came out nicely the only thing I’m a little unhappy with is the contrasting tie I added for detail on the outside of the purse.
I used the floral fabric to make this tie, but I didn’t have quite enough left, so it came out a bit short. This means when tied around the purse, it pulls to opening of the purse slightly closed.
Oh, well, other than that I’m happy with it and so is my mom.
