Last weekend was my birthday and it dawned on me that it was my birthday 5 years ago when my mother-in-law bought me my sewing machine and learned to sew.
I thought since it’s basically my 5-year Sewiversary I’d share with you a little slideshow of the past 5 years of my sewing makes.
5 Years of Sewings
In five years who knew you could make so many things. I went from complete beginner to sewing dresses in a few weeks. Mostly because that’s why I wanted to sew in the first place, I wanted to make vintage style dresses.
I probably tackled a lot of more advanced projects earlier than I should have, simply because I didn’t know any better, but I Googled and Youtubed answers when I needed it and managed somehow.
Obviously, with anything practice makes you better. A lot of my first projects didn’t have the right fit and the stitching could have been better.
5 Makes I Love
Still, somehow over the past 5 years, I managed to make some amazing things, here are just a few of my favorite from the past 5 years.
Sewing Community
One of the things I have loved so much about learning to sew is getting to be apart of the sewing community.
When I first started to sew I knew nothing about it, but thanks to Youtube and some amazing bloggers I was able to connect with and learn from it made all the difference.
Today, I’m part of an avid community of sewers who share on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube. I’m also happy that I can not only be apart of this amazing and growing community but also share my own experiences with you guys as well.
Though there is a downside to having learned to sew, I have a massive wardrobe of clothes and an even larger fabric stash.
