Classic Prom

It seems that Prom is right around the corner. I can tell by all the ads from my favorite clothing retailers being filled with images of beautiful gowns.

Prom as many of you know, is a formal dance that takes place during the junior and senior year of high school.

Personally I never attended prom, since I opted to take the GED exam graduate early and start college at only 16.

Not to mention my ultra nerdy personality probably was the prom type anyways. This didn’t mean that I wasn’t still intrigued by the idea of prom and dressing up in those beautiful gowns.

During the time I would have been in high school, which was the 90’s, the trend for prom dresses was mostly short and skimpy.

90’s Prom Style, wasn’t my style

In other words it seemed a way for high school girls to dress like they were going night clubbing. Definitely not my style.

I’ve always been drawn to more classic vintage looks. The long flowing gowns of the 50’s have always been more my style, think Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn.

On a whim while surfing the Web, I discovered that the classic look of yesteryear proms are back in style. In fact the classic elegance of vintage style dress is really making a big statement this year, in the prom department.

It might be due to the growing popularity of period shows like the 1960’s themed Mad Men or the classic turn of the century Downton Abbey. Whatever the case there are some fantastic dresses out there.

While there are a lot of options for buying prom dresses one of the top places I’ve come across, that offer a wide range of these classic prom looks is DressFirst.com

What I loved about their dresses is the classic vintage look that so many of them had.

While I , personally, won’t be needing a prom dress anytime soon, I couldn’t resist sharing some fun dresses I fun found from Dress First.
