Today is Pi day, celebrating the number π (spelled out as Pi ), which a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14159.
While, Pi day is observed yearly, by math and science nerds on 3/14. This year is especially noteworthy because it falls on 3/14/15, which is pretty much the whole value of Pi.
What does one do on Pi day? Well, eat pie of course!
Making Pie
The only question is what pie to make? Personally, I love pie, maybe even more than cake. So to help inspire you to make pie for Pi day tomorrow, I’m going to share of my all time favorite pies I made.
1. No-Bake Key Lime Pie
My crowd pleasing all time favorite pie is my No-Bake Key Lime pie. Ever since I started making it friends and family have been requesting it. It’s a simple recipe, but I think the main trick is to use fresh lime juice as it really enhances the flavor.
2. Lemon Berry Pie
I’ve only made my Lemon Berry Pie a handful of times. It’s a little richer than the key lime pie and the berries on top make it more of a seasonal pie. Though I’ve only made this pie two or three times, it is excellent and very fruity and refreshing. Being another no back pie, it’s also relatively easy to make as well.
3. Strawberry Pie
Another easy and delicious pie I’ve made is a Strawberry Pie. The original recipe came from the Glamorous Housewife’s Ultimate Strawberry Pie recipe. The pie is nice and creamy and with the 1/2 pound of diced strawberries very fruity. As usual I opted to use Splenda instead of sugar and it worked out great.
4. Lemon Meringue Pie
I’ve heard that Lemon Meringue Pie was a tricky pie to make, so I had to try to make one myself. For this pie I used “Grandma’s Lemon Meringue Pie” recipe from All Recipes. The flavor of this pie was so light and lemony it was gone in a matter of hours. As with the Key Lime Pie the key is to use fresh squeezed juice.
5. Apple Pie
I’ve experiment with apply pie, I even made a Cinnamon Roll Dutch Apple pie. While everyone agreed that my apple pie filling was the best, the crust was another story. Then this past Christmas I decided to give it one more shot, this time using Brittany Sherman, Perfect Pie Crust recipe. This time we had a winner! Everybody loved both the filling and the crust.
