Illustrator’s Recolor

There are now even more reasons why I’m in love with Adobe’s CS3 release. I’ve recently had the opportunity to teach a class on Adobe Illustrator, and although I don’t use this software as much as I’d like; teaching the class has forced me to spend a few hours working in it.

The live trace and live paint options that were released in Illustrators CS2 gave me a reason to like the software. Up until then I’d rather use flash to draw vector images. Yesterday I discovered that CS3 also has a new recolor tool.

The recolor tool allows you to quickly change all the colors of drawing with a few mouse clicks. It is kind of like the replace color option in Photoshop, but a little more intuitive.

With your entire drawing select you can choose the recolor option and a new palette appears showing you all the current colors in you drawing. From there you can assign a new color for each or apply a color scheme that will replace the colors with new ones.

This feature is great, especially if your working with clients who aren’t sure what colors or look they are going for. You can quickly adjust your drawing with a few clicks.

Just another reason why CS3 is so cool!
