Akram's Ideas: Vintage Capsule Wardrobe Sew-Along

Vintage Capsule Wardrobe Sew-Along

So one of my favorite sewing bloggers, Rochelle of Lucky Lucille is hosting a new sew-along. This particular sew-along is Vintage Inspired Four Piece Mini Capsule Wardrobe or VIFPMCW for short. Yeah, it’s a mouthful either way.

Anyways, I’m super excited about this. First off the sew-along has no set dates, just so as you go, kind of like the Vintage Pattern Pledge sew-along. This is nice since many times I don’t really get a chance to participate in sew-alongs, or miss the deadline altogether.

Second I’ve been meaning to create my own capsule wardrobe for sometime. If you are unfamiliar with the term capsule wardrobe, essentially it means  a collection of a few must-have items of clothing that will not go out of fashion, such as a skirt, pair of pants, coat and can be expanded upon with seasonal pieces.

The only question now is what type of VIFPMCW do I sew? Should I focus on year-round essentials or should I go with a seasonal wardrobe?

As it turns out I have several patterns in my stash that might work.

Simplicity 4 Season Dress
This pattern is for a 4-season dress, might be a nice option.
Simplicity 1960's Wardrobe
This wardrobe pattern is from the 1960’s
1950's Wardrobe
This pattern is more my style, but not my size
1970's Wardrobe
Not sure about the 1970’s but the pattern is more my size.

Deciding which pattern to sew always seems to be the hardest part of any challenge. Once I have a definite plan for this project I’ll get started.
