#SpringForCotton 2015 Plan of Action

As many of you know I participated last year in the #SewForVicitory sew-along challenge hosted by Rochelle of Lucky Lucille.

I had great fun with that challenge and was hoping to join in with this year’s sew along. As it turns out Rochelle announced the #SpringForCotton sew along, just this past Friday.

#SpringForCotton Details

Unlike the #SewForVictory challenge that was limited to 1940 era patterns, this challenge is open to any pattern decade between the 1920’s to 1970’s. The catch is that you sew ONLY using 100% cotton!

Why 100% cotton? We’ll if you’ve ever read Lucky Lucille, you’d know that Rochelle loves cotton, especially quilting cottons for use in garment making.

I happen to also be a big fan of cotton. I like how easy it is to sew with and how breathable the fabric is. It also just so happens that I have quite a bit of cotton fabric in my stash, the only question is what should I make?

Plan of Action

Since the challenge focuses on cotton fabric, I figured I start with choosing the fabric. While I had lots of choices, I decided I would go with this very vintage cherry fabric.

I think it’s rather unusual how the cherries on this particular pattern are more of a green-brown color as opposed to the traditional red. It’s different and I like different.

While the challenge is open to a wide rage of sewing decades I really do enjoy sewing 1940’s style dresses. As it so happens I had already planed to sew Advance 4906 a 1948 pattern, as part of my 2015 #VintagePledge.

I thought this particular dress would look great in the cherry print. I love the details and interesting collar on this piece, so I can’t wait to get started on this project.
