Spring Outting

For a few weeks now I have been sick with “walking pneumonia” and it hasn’t been fun. Hover, this morning I had finally felt a little better and decided that I was sick of this cabin fever and had to get out of the house. After all it was such a nice spring day, who wouldn’t want to get out and about.

That morning I curled my hair and dawned my new dress I got for only $20 at JcPenny. I really like the color and loved the vintage vibe of the dress.

I paired the dress with one of my vintage purses and my absolute favorite vintage hat. I had bought the hat almost a year ago at a doll show for $23, which I thought was a little pricey, but worth it, because it is just darling. I hadn’t worn the hat, because I didn’t know what to wear it with, but when I brought this dress home, I knew it was a perfect match.

I didn’t have any particular destination in mind for this outing, just wanted out of the house. So my hubby suggested we visit some lesser known hotspots of Joplin, Missouri.

This included driving by Sky High Castle, which is an actual castle built during 1927 – 1930. After visiting Europe in the 1920’s the original owner/builder decided he wanted to have his own castle built of local stone. The castle used to be open to the public but is now up for sale and in somewhat disappear. It’s up high on a hill and you can’t really get a good look at it just by driving by so sadly I have no pictures of it.

Another hotspot we hit was the Bonnie and Clyde hideout house. This garage apartment the notorious couple rented just before their big crime spree. It is also the site where they shot the local sheriff before making a run out-of-town.

After driving by the Bonnie and Clyde hideout house, we drove over to Redings Mill Bridge, which is where the couple made their escape route after the shooting at the garage. The bring is no longer in use, but is open for visitors to walk on and enjoy the views. The view by the way is fantastic.

Reddings Mill Bridge is nestled in the lovely country side of Joplin and we took advantage of the nice weather and drove around a bit. Unfortunately my phone died after a while and had to charge it in the car, so I didn’t get many pictures of the countryside.

We ended the day going to the movies to see Star Trek in to the darkness (review to come). While at the theater I couldn’t resist stopping to get a picture of me in a Monster’s University Student ID card. Monster’s comes out next month and I’m eager to see it. Not only that but I can’t resist posing with silly cut outs any chance I get.

Because of the lighting and the flash my eyes seemed to glow in the picture, which I thought was only fitting. After all it made me look more monster like.

All in all I had a really good day and barely coughed, that is until the way home. Oh, well I hope to be well enough soon to go out and about on adventure date day with my hubby, again soon.
