My Teaching Portfolio

As many of you know I work by day as a Professor in the Graphics and Imaging Technologies department at Pittsburg State University, in the College of Technology.

Each year the college presents a Professor of the year award. This year I was nominated by one of my co-workers for this award.

While I didn’t win, I was honored to be nominated for such an award. As, part of the nomination process each nominee had to present a portfolio of their contributions to the college and their profession.

Most people submit a printed portfolio with documentation and the like, but I thought since I’m in the graphics department and because I teach primarily web design courses, my portfolio would be a website.

Not only would I put together this website, it would be a parallax scrolling site. Parallax scrolling is a technique in computer graphics, where background images move slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in a 2D scene and adding to the immersion. There are many ways to do this, however, I used both CSS and JQuery to create my site.

Now I know for most of my readers this probably sounds very techie and complicated, but with some basic web skills it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

Anyways, I was so happy how my portfolio came out I thought I would share it with all of you. I’d love to hear your thoughts on my portfolio.
