My “Middy” Cut

A few days ago I mentioned that I was planing on getting my hair cut in the vintage “Femme Fatal” style cut. “Femme Fatal”, being the extra long version of the “Middy” hair cut which you can read about in my previous post. Anyways, I was leery of  getting my hair cut to begin with, because I’d been growing it out for at least 10 years now, with only a minor trim here or there.

Although I loved my long hair, I thought it was time for a change, not to mention I was getting kind of tired of finding my hair everywhere, that I thought I could use a good cut. Since I was nervous about getting the cut I wanted to get it done by someone I could trust. My sister suggested I get my hair done by her stylist and friend Sara Anderson at Salon 9309 in Oklahoma City. Since I was coming to visit my folks in OKC anyways, I thought why not.

I had printed out the hair cut guide and brought some sample photos with me to the salon. Sara was super friendly and very excited to try out this look. Before getting started she looked over my hair and suggested that I keep my length just below my shoulders, this way when it is curled it should set right at my shoulders. She also suggested that I not add as many layers as the traditional cut recommends, as it might make it more difficult on me to curl. She also loved the “Betty Page” bangs and said that they would suit me and the cut well.

After a quick shampoo we got started on the cut.

The cut was a mix of a wet and dry cut. This meant that the majority of the hair was cut while it was wet, typical method of cutting, and the rest was cut when the hair was dry. The dry cut allowed for a more blunt and accurate cut, especially when it came to the bangs.

Sara was super friendly and explained every step of the process.

After the dry cut, the hair was blow dried again, then styled with a couple of different Unite hair products, all of which I can’t remember.

Sara gave me a loose curl, because she wanted me to be able to see the cut at its actual length, but said that it would bounce up if I were to curl it. That night I used my “Spiral Curlers” by Conair to curl my hair. The next morning I took them out.

Then to create my vintage look, I followed the instructions by Miss Amanda Lee in her short film by Atomic Age Pictures on Vintage Style on YouTube.

I absolutely love the way it came out. I just love the curls, and the length is just right. The hair is still long enough to put up in a nice ponytail and it’s just so breezy now with my shorter hair. I’d love to hear what you guys think of my new look.
