Most Snuggliest Sweater Ever- UvitaTop Hack

For Christmas this past year I made myself the most snuggles sweater ever, the Utivia top from Itch to Stitch.

Uvita Top

The Uvita top from Itch to Stitch patterns is a simple top with a relaxed drop shoulder. This comfortable and stylish top is such a wardrobe staple, plus best of all it’s a free pattern.

Free patterns are a great way to try out pattern companies that are new to you and get a feel for their instructions and construction methods.

Constructing the Utivia Top

The Uvita top is super simple to construct and probably a really good beginner pattern for sewing with jersey. The pattern comes in sizes 00 to 20 and is recommended for knit fabric with 25% to 50% stretch.

Because of the drop shoulder, there isn’t much fussing with set-in sleeves and the neck facing is a little easier in my opinion than having to stretch a neckband around.

As with all Itch to Stitch patterns, I’m happy with the detailed instructions.

Sewing Summary
Date Sewn Dec 23, 2019 Akram's Ideas: Uvita Top Pink
Pattern: Itch to Stitch
Version: Uvita Top
Size: Size 10
Fabric Used: Fleece backed jersey
Instructions: Excellent instructions with detailed illustrations
Construction: The construction is super simple. There is two main bodice pieces and sleeve. There is a neck facing instead of a neckband, which gives the top a slightly more dressy look while still having a telexed feel.
Modifications / Recommendations: I hacked the top by adding a funnel neck to it. I simply increased the height of the neck facing by 6 inches, folded it lengthwise and sewed it on as a neckband
Overall Thoughts: This top is simple to make but so many possibilities. I love the soft neckline and dropped shoulders. Itch to Stitch patterns even offers an expansion pack for the top, adding several other features.

Uvita Top Hack

When cutting out this top I knew right away I wanted to add a funnel neck to this top. Itch to Stitch actually offers an expansion pack to this pattern that includes a funnel neck, but I figured that it would be easy enough to create on my own.

Basically all I did was take the neck facing and extend it by 6 inches. I folded the funnel neck over and then sewed it on as a neckband. I really love how it came out.

I think the Uvita top is a great pattern to hack and really change the look of it. I’ve seen a bunch of versions that are color-blocked at the sleeves which I want to try. As I mentioned there is an expansion pack with a funnel neck and I think a hoodie version, which could also be amazing.

Most Sunggliest Sweater

In the end, this has to be hands down the most snuggliest sweater I’ve made. The jersey back fleece I used is so comfortable and cozy.

I’m also really happy that I choose to make the Utivia top. At first, I thought about making another Toaster Sweater but I already have a few and I wanted to try something new. The Uvita top checked all the boxes of a simple and comfortable make.

Have you made the Utitiva top? What were your thoughts on this pattern?
