The Chesnut Sweater is an Autumn Essential

Here in Oklahoma our autumn mornings can start out at a chilly 45 degrees but quickly rise throughout the day up to near 70 degrees.

With such a range of temperatures a fun crop top that doubles as a sweater might just be the perfect attire.

So, when Ana from Coco Wawa Crafts released the Chestnut sweater earlier this season I knew this would be an essential piece in my autumn wardrobe.

Perfect Autumn Sweater

The Chestnut sweater comes with several variations but I decided to go with version A, a cropped sweater with a back bow closure.

Champagne and Pearl Spot Fabric
I knew this would make a great Chestnut!

Once I purchased this pattern I had to find just the right fabric. As it so happens in my birthday fabric haul I managed to come across a lovely polyester knit champagne colored fabric with lovely pearl white dots.

Sweatshirt Toile

Before cutting into my lovely fabric I decided I needed to make a test toile.

As it so happens I had some fun purple and pink floral sweatshirt fabric in my stash that I had no idea what to make with it.

This print adds to the whimsy style of the Chestnut Sweater

This sweatshirt fabric had just enough stretch that it would make a good Chestnut sweater.

The sweatshirt came out perfect. The only issue is that I sewed the bow a little lower than it was meant to be on the back, making it gap a little.

Finished this version off with a sparkly pink bow

Once the toil was completed I set out to make my official version.

Holiday Top

While I love my champagne colored Chestnut sweater, I did make a bit of an error when making it.

Casual and Classy is what this Chestnut Sweater is

The fabric didn’t have as much stretch as the sweatshirt and the arms are a little snug. I guess that means I just need to do more upper arm exercises to squeeze into this lovely top.

Used an ivory bow to finish up my champagne and dots Chestnut Sweater

Other than the tight arms, I love this top. It’s both casual and dressy at the same time.

I had just enough fabric left over that I even plan to make a matching circle skirt and wear it for my next holiday event, which will likely be Thanksgiving.
