Butterick 6464 a Great Seasonal Transitional Set

Today we are expecting our first freeze of the year and the chilly temps are making summer a faint memory.

Despite the cooler weather our fall thus far has been really nice allowing me to continue to wear several of my summer makes. One such make is none other than Butterick 6464.

Butterick 6464 – Kimono Set

I purchased Butterick 6464 pattern at the end of summer and specifically for the kimono jacket which I have to say I love.

While there were other kimono jacket patterns out there I choose this one because of the added skirt and top pattern that came with it.

Kimono Jacket

The jacket whips up in no time and it’ has some lovely details like the on contrasting collar band and cuffs.

Love the look of the kimono jacket

The fit is very loose, granted I made the slightly larger size so but I could probably go down a size if I needed.

The kimono jacket was so easy to make

Paneled Pencil Skirt

While I do love the kimono jacket I can’t say the same for the rest of the outfit. The skirt included in this pattern was for a paneled pencil skirt which was easy enough to put together except for the waistband.

The skirt came out okay but could be better

The skirt had a hidden elastic casing and the instructions (at least to me) were rather confusing on how to actually put together the waistband. This confusion lead me to leave this project on the sewing table for almost a month.

Once I finally figured it out, it wasn’t as hard as I thought. While I do like the skirt I’m not sure if I like it on me, or if I’m not keen on the style or the color.

Halter Top

The halter top was by far the most tedious bit of this pattern and by the time I got to it I just wanted to be done with this outfit.

Not to keen on the halter top

I also tried to avoid all the hand sewing on this piece and by doing that the topstitching really looks messy and well, just not my usual quality.

The top is wearable but I don’t like how it makes my shoulders look big and the collar band is all lumpy and well, I just don’t care for it.

Just not sure how this top looks

I have a bit of fabric left over, so I might just make some sort of cami top to wear with this outfit instead.

Transitional Piece

Despite this outfit was released amidst the summer season it’s been a really good transitional piece.

I made my outfit out of a medium weight polyester type stretch when means it’s been a good choice on slightly cooler mornings.

The colors transitional perfectly into fall

The kimono I have worn quite a lot with jeans. It’s a great pullover that makes your outfit a little classier.

Since I made this outfit out of an orange floral print the colors can be considered somewhat autumnal in tone.

While I have some things I like and don’t like about this pattern, it was defiantly worth it just for the kimono alone.
