Akram's Ideas: Weathering the Storms

Weathering the Storms

You don’t need a calendar to let you know it’s May in Oklahoma. Just check the weather, and there’s probably a chance for storms and possible tornadoes.

Yes, it’s tornado season in Oklahoma, which of course could happen anytime of the year, May being the most prominent.

The severe weather started at the end of April. In fact April 29th I was on the road driving to Tulsa, trying to get out of Norman before the tornado hit. Fortunately it turned out to be high winds, no tornado, and I was 15 minutes out driving north from it.

Okay, so speaking of storms and driving from one town to another. Last month I mentioned getting a new job, what I didn’t say is it is about 2 hours from where I currently live.

My darling husband suggested I take the job, and figure out logistics later, since his job is in Tulsa and well my new job is in Norman.

Since I suffer from narcolepsy, driving long periods is very hard for me, so it was decided that during the week I would stay with my mother-in-law (Miss Linda) and come home on the weekends.

This is the plan for now, anyways, until we figure out jobs and places to live. It seems like yet another storm of life in which I have to weather through.

If you want to see the sunshine, you have to weather the storm.

As the quote above suggests I’m just going to try my best to weather through the storm.

So, don’t be surprised if the blog is a little sparse for a while, and bare with me until I get to a point where I can go back to scheduled blogging.

  • Oklahoma weather! What a metaphor. I moved to Texas right after the major tornado in Garland, and I’ve been at the mercy of several hail storms…how do you Great Plains people do it? I thought Indiana was tornado alley. Hah!

Hopefully your storm will smooth out soon. It’s so exciting that you got the job in Norman! Being in a university environment is seriously the best.

  • Thanks Kira, yes I do love University environment, there’s always something going on around campus. As for the storms, let’s just say that every born and raised Okie is a amateur meteorologist and we can spot a wall cloud by second grade. Of course another saying we have is if you don’t like the weather, wait a while, it’s going to change.
