On the Sewing Table – Summer 2018 Sewing Plans

I know what you’re thinking it’s the end of July why would I wait until now to share my summer sewing plans? Actually, I filmed this video at the end of June but because I was busy sewing before our summer vacation I didn’t get around to editing until just now. Oh, well better late than never, I guess.

Summer Sewing Plans

Okay so as I said I made these plans before going on vacation and many of the plans were for items that I wanted to take with me to the beach.

Simplicity 8605

First on my list is a pair of culottes and not long ago I picked up Simplicity 8605 on a 99 cent pattern sale. This is for a paper bag waist pant, culotte or skirt. I’m kind of on the fence on paper bag waists, but I’ve seen a lot on Instagram recently and thought I give it a try.

Better late than never, here's a peek at what is (and was) on my sewing table for Summer 2018, including mini-vacation sewing plans with culottes, skirts, and dresses.
In case you’re wondering, yes I made both pairs

I plan to make a pair of the culottes in a blue chambray that I have. If I have time I’d also like to make a pair out of a navy blue cotton with white tropical flowers.

If you are super curious, I actually did manage to make both pairs, so yay!

Butterick 6354

In my stash, I found some fruit fabric remnants from a circle skirt I made a few years ago. The plan has always been to make a matching bolero and I thought why not do it now.

For the bolero, I plan to use Butterick 6354 which is a Gertie pattern and one I’ve made before, so I knew I could whip it up quickly.

Can’t wait to show you how this project turned out

Simplicity 1426

I pretty sure I’ll have enough fruit fabric that I could put together a bar top using Simplicity 1426.

This isn’t exactly something I’d typically wear but I do have the pattern and since this will be for a beach vacation I thought why not.

CocoWawa Craft Honeycomb Dress

In the video, I said if I had time I wanted to make the Honeycomb dress from  CocoWawa Crafts. Well, I was so excited, I ended up making that one first.

This sailboat print was used to make my lovely Honeycomb dress

I loved this dress so much that I immediately made a few more versions and shared a pattern review after getting back from vacation.

Megan Dress

I’m still working my way through my make nine and one the items on the list is the Megan Dress from Tilly & the Buttons first book Love at First Stitch.

My Tilly & the Buttons Megan Dress is all cut out and ready to go

The plan is to make this dress out of a cotton navy fabric with a tiny white heart print. I also want to do a bit of a hack and add a peter pan collar to the dress in a contrasting white.

Laneway Dress

Another dress on my make nine is the Laneway Dress from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. I’ve been wanting to make this forever and just need to get to it.

I really want to do a good job on my Jennifer Lauren Handmade Laneway Dress

So, I plan to work on it soonish. I do want to do a good job and don’t want to rush it. I’m even thinking about doing a toile first? What do you think?

Simplicity 8019

When I found this dotted swiss fabric in a blue denim color, I knew this would make a perfect Simplicity 8019

Simplicity 8019 has quickly become a staple in my wardrobe

Yes I know I have a lot of those skirts but I can’t help it. I love it. And despite all the buttons, it really is a quick and easy sew.

What’s On Your Sewing Table?

Okay, so in all honesty, I’ve already gotten the first 4 on my list made up since they were for vacation. I also just finished adding the buttons to my Simplicity 8019 skirt.

So, with that said I only have the Megan and the Laneway dress to go. I’m pretty confident I will be able to make those before the end of August, but we shall see.

I’d love to hear in the comments below what’s on your sewing table for this summer.
