Cozy Cardi Challenge Pumpkin Cardi Reveal

When Amanda from I Sew A Lot, along with Nikki and Rachel from the Stitch Sisters, announced the second annual #CosyCardiChallenge.

Last year for the #CosyCardiChallenge I made the Slouchy Cardi from In the Folds patterns. I had so much fun with this challenge I was excited to join in the fun this year too.

Review of my Cozy Cardi Challenge make, the In the Folds Slouch Cardigan a quick and easy pattern that also free.
This cardigan has ended up being my office cardi

The only question was what pattern would I use to make this year’s cozy cardi?

Coco Wawa Crafts Pumpkin Cardi

Around the same time, I heard about the #CosyCardiChallenge I had just finished testing the Pumpkin dress and cardi pattern from Coco Wawa Crafts

I made the dress version for the test and loved it so much I knew that I wanted to eventually try my hand at making the cardi version.

Sharing what's on the sewing table, my autumn 2018 sewing plans, which include a birthday dress, cozy cardi and vintage coat.

Pumpkin Cropped Hack

The Pumpkin cardigan pattern is more of a slouchy cardigan falling right at or just below the hipline.

I do like this look, but I have a lot of cardigans this style. What I was really wanting in my wardrobe was a cropped cardigan that hit me right at the waist.

Pattern: Coco Wawa Crafts Pumpkin
Version: Cardigan
Size: Size 5
Notes & Modification: Cropped the bodice to 2 inches from the lengthen/shorten line and added ruffled cuffs

Difficulty: Intermediate Easy Rating:

In order to get the Pumpkin cardigan to fit me the way I wanted I did a bit of a hack. I simply measured myself and where I wanted the cardigan to set, just around my waistline.

Then I measured the bodice pattern pieces. I determined for my cropped version cutting the pattern 2 inches below the lengthen and shorten line would be the exact look I was going for.

I also choose to use the ruffled hem band on the cardigan version. Since I altered the circumference of the hem by cropping the bodice I had to remeasure the bottom hem.

Cropping this cardigan made it the exact look I was wanting

After getting the new bottom hem measurement I went back to the original pattern piece and checked to see if any of the smaller sizes had the original hem the same size.

As it turns out size 1 was the close enough to the size of my new hem size, I decided just to cut the ruffle band pieces for size 1 and use them.

Who doesn’t love a good ruffle?

Lastly to give the cardigan extra ruffles, because hey who doesn’t love a ruffle? I added 3 inches to the cuff pieces so that I could ruffle them too.

My Cozy Cardi

The intention was to have a cute frilly cardigan to wear with my dresses this autumn and hopefully spring as well.

I think I totally managed to pull off a super frilly and cute cardigan that I know that I will get a ton of wear out of.

I adore the look of this cardigan

At first, I was worried that the bright yellow color of the cardigan would lend itself more to spring than autumn. But once I paired it with some of my autumn brochures I found that they complemented it nicely.

Yellow isn’t just for spring, looks good in autumn too

The pumpkin patter is so versatile because you can make in various styles, plus with a few minor hacks, you can even get more out of it.

Rarely do projects come out exactly how you conceived them in your head but this one was exactly that. I can’t say enough about how much I love this cardigan.

I’d love to hear in the comments below if you are joining in the #CosyCardiChallenge and what you plan to make?
