Vintage Pattern Haul – 2018

Last week I shared all my fave finds I picked up over the last few months out and about antiquing.  What I didn’t share were the amazing vintage patterns that I also happen to pick up. There were quite a few so I thought that I would share them all in a separate vlog.

Buying Vintage Patterns

I’ve said this a few times before, but if you are on the hunt for vintage patterns, I’ve found that buying in bulk is definitely more economical.

Most of the time when I come across a box of vintage patterns, the patterns are priced anywhere between a $1 to $3. If I have a quick browse and find that I want more than say 5 patterns, then I asked how much they would like for the box. Depending on the size of the box they’ll say anything between $5 to $20. This makes the purchase a bit of a steal because this often prices the patterns at under $1 each.

While you can get a really good deal on patterns when buying in bulk there are a few downsides.

First, off you don’t always know what you are going to get. While there are a few really cool vintage patterns in this haul, there were also quite a few children and maternity patterns, which I have no need for. Also, there are quite a few that aren’t even close to my size.

Secondly, and probably most importantly is space. I’m lucky enough to have my own sewing room and a spare room that I can store my patterns, not everyone has the extra space to accommodate so many patterns.

Pattern Destashing

While I love finding vintage patterns and getting them for a bargain I have now accumulated far too many patterns.

Not to mention I have a lot of patterns that I just ended up with, in the bulk of the purchase. These are patterns that I’ll never make, are not my style or not even close to my size.

So, with that said I really need to consider destashing my pattern stash. The only question is how to go about doing just that. I’d love to hear in the comments below what suggestions you have for selling my patterns online.
